The 17th Edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations requires that new RCD's and RCCB's should be tested on installation for sensitivity and for speed of operation in accordance with BS4293:1983.

It is also strongly recommended that RCD's and RCCB's in existing installations should be tested regularly. Such RCD's and RCCB's may be designed in accordance with some other(earlier) standard and are capable of providing proper levels of protection to personnel and equipment according to specification.
